Do you ever wake up from having a perfect dream and feel you were watching a movie? The only difference is that you were in the movie. Does that seem strange to you?
Has one of your dreams been about being the Princess at your own ball. Of course your own ball is your Quinceanera Celebration.
Does thinking about this make you feel overwhelmed at times? Most of us except those who want to be an actor don't feel comfortable being the center of attention at a party.
I have spoken with many Quinceaneras about this. Only a few of the girls shared they were comfortable with all the attention they got.
One Quinceanera I spoke with her name is Maria. Maria lives in Los Angeles, the capitol of the entertainment industry. However, Maria said she felt awkward at times during her Quince celebration.
She said that everyone came up to her and told her she looked sooo beautiful. She said she knew she looked better than she usually did, but not that different. At times she felt all she wanted to do was to sit down in a corner and hide.
She said she really didn't know how to say thank you to everyone when they gave her a compliment. She felt embarrassed with so many people giving her all the attention. She wished someone had told her what to do. How to say thank you with confidence.
Maria said, she would have liked to have practiced... how to walk like a Princess in her Quinceanera dress. She would have liked learning how to shake hands with
guests.that expected her to follow their tradition of shaking hands for extending good wishes and congratulations.
My suggestion is check out my book
Quinceanera Connection:Your Dream Celebration On Any Budget and practice the following:
- Take five minutes everyday during the last month prior to your Quince and look in the mirror.
- Take a deep breath and then start thanking the person in the mirror for coming to share your special day.
- Smile and then say to yourself 'I LOVE YOU'. Say it over and over again.
- Then say to the person in the mirror thank you, thank you, thank you- repeat the process as many times as you want
- Feeling comfortable and confident with yourself is the secret to doing the right thing at your Quinceanera or anytime for that matter.
- If you feel comfortable with yourself you will do the correct and acceptable thing. You will convey the essence of being the beautiful Princess you are. Because, you will share your loving and caring spirit with your guests.
- And that is the perfect way to handle yourself at your Quinceanera and every other day of your life.
Today's teen has different challenges to deal with than their parents did when they were growing up, no matter where they lived. Life can be very stressful for you at this time when you are making your transition from a young girl to a young woman.
Or you can stop and think about yourself. Have you thought about what kind of life you want for yourself? You have the choice to be your own person and make the best choices for yourself. Or you can follow the crowd and let the leader of the crowd make choices for you.
- Can you communicate with your parents or guardian whatever challenges you are concerned with?
- If you can't communicate with your parents or guardian you need to find a mentor. An adult who you can trust to communicate with.
- We all need to feel we are loved and belong. Just like a puppy dog who is always looking for affection. People need to feel loved and be accepted also.
- The meaning of the Quinceanera Celebration should be your major focus as you are preparing for your special day.
- As a young woman you are now responsible for your own decisions. Yes, your parents are probably having trouble adjusting to your new role, but you need to show them that you are ready to make the best choices for yourself.
- You will have to prove yourself in order to get more freedom, because your parents worry about you. Their worrying is because they love you. It's not they don't trust you. It's just that life today has many different challenges.
- It's a good idea to take a course in self defense. Check with your counselor at school or your gym teacher where you could take a course. Maybe you could get a group of girls together and find a teacher who would teach the group self defense. You will feel greater self-empowerment in every situation and your parents or guardian will worry less about your safety.
- It's a good idea to start to think about what kind of education you want after high school. My book: Quinceanera Connection: Your Dream Celebration On Any Budget, contains a section - 'Girl Talk'. It's filled with a tips, a roadmap and guide on how to plan your life after high school.
- Your Quinceanera Celebration will be more meaningful after your party is over if you have started to plan for your new role as a young woman with new responsibilities in your own life.
In summary: it's very important to find an adult you trust and respect to be your mentor. Whether it's your parent, teacher, relative or friend of the family. You need to have an adult in your life, who will listen to you without judgement. An adult who is a good role model and cares about you. A person who wants you to have a good quality of life. A life with a purpose. A life filled with happiness, peace, harmony, good health, love and abundance.
- Start today planning your own life as you're planning for your Quinceanera. You will then be the Princess the day of your celebration and every other day of your life.
- You deserve your best life possible. Why not make it happen. You can do it.
