The Sweet 15 or Sweet 16 theme you choose is the backdrop for you. You watch television shows, go to the movies and even when you go shopping in the mall. Think about what affects you the most. It's usually the colors that makes the first impact on us. The next is how the space is divided up. Then there is whether there is a balance in the design. If you have a talent for design it should be easy for you to create a theme for your celebration.
However, if you haven't spent much time in the past creating things, then I recommend you find a friend or a relative to help you with planning your Sweet 15 party theme.
As I stated the Sweet 15 theme you choose is your backdrop, your movie set. It can be simple elegance or as elaborate as your budget can afford.
To spend money, just to impress other people doesn't accomplish anything. It just makes someone else's bank account bigger. And then when your Sweet 15 celebration is just memories and you want something else from your parents. They will probably say, 'I spent so much money on your Quinceanera and you're asking for -----'. What about if you make the right choices and don't pick the most expensive things. For sure your parents will be proud of your choices. Not only in a long run will your parents realize you appreciate everything they give you, they will appreciate your mature attitude about things.
When decorating for a large event first think of the color scheme. My recommendation is go to a home center store, such as Home Depot. Visit the paint department. They have free color charts you can take home with you. Study the colors you like. See what colors look best together. Discuss the colors you like with your family to make sure everyone is involved with your choices.
After you choose the colors you like the best, then you can start to thing about the other decorations, flowers, ribbons, table clothes, balloons, favors, candles and everything else on your list for your reception.
Remember the colors for your Sweet 15 theme will be the backdrop for you and your Quinceanera dress. That is why choosing pastel colors will probably work out well.
Twinkle lights that are used at Christmas give a beautiful fairytale effect and the strings of lights are inexpensive. If you are planning your Quinceanera anytime during the year, I recommend you purchase the strings of lights at the after Christmas sales. Even if you buy more than you need they are so inexpensive at that time you can give them to someone for a present the next Christmas.
Netting or tulle by the yard for decorating is inexpensive for the effect it will give. If you drape the netting around poles and then place the twinkle lights over the tulle you will have a beautiful effect. You can always bring potted plants inside and place the twikle lights on the potted plant and place the netting around the pot of the plant.
You can use the tulle to dress up a head table by draping it over the basic table cloth. You can also drape the twinkle lights over the tulle and you will have an elegant look. That would fit into anyone's budget. Renting table cloths are very expensive. Decorating with tulle and lights will create a image that would cost you ten times the amount you would spend and probably the end result will be prettier.
Flowers can be very expensive. If you have a small budget and you and your family like to make floral arrangements. You can purchase glasss vases, fill the vase half way with with either limes or lemons (you can also alternate with placing glass stones with the limes or lemons) and then place your flowers and leaves in the vase. This type of arrangement is unique and usually very expensive if purchased at a florist. Check out Martha Stewart's web site for ideas. Check out the section in Quinceanera Connection for other floral ideas. If you didn't purchase the book, ask your library to order it.
Candles offer a lovely ambience for every Sweet 15 party. If you are having your party in a public venue, then you need to check with the catering manager if you can have lighted candles for decorations. Many cities have fire laws where they don't allow lighted candles at events. Check first before you purchase any.
If you can have voltive candles on the table an idea is to use a mirror tile as a base for the voltive candles and then place rose flower petals on the mirror around the candles. It's an inexpensive way to create a beautiful effect.
Now that you have chosen your colors, basic decorating items. The next step is to decide whether you want to have some props to expand your party theme beyond. There are all kinds of props available for rent or purchase. From a complete Cinderella carriage to Pinanita's. It all depends on what you want and your budget.
You should be the main focal point of your Quinceanera Celebration, not the decorations you have chosen. If you choose to have a very elaborate backdrop that is what all your guests will remember when they leave your fiesta. If you spend some time choosing your colors, table decorations, lighting effects and the many other things noted in this article you will have the most lovely dream Quinceanera on any budget. You will be the princess at your Sweet 15 ball, because you will have created an elegant ambiance for everyone to feel comfortable and have a wonderful, fun time.
